Malcolm Hughes

Regents' Professor Emeritus, Laboratory of Tree Ring Research, College of Science

Dr. Hughes studies how and why climate varies on interannual to century time scales. Specific areas of interest include past climate in Europe, Asia, and the Sierra Nevada, as indicated by tree rings; fine detail of wood structure revealed by microdensitometry; and the potential of 3,000-year-old and older giant sequoia as proxy climate records.
