Dr. Lopez’s research focuses primarily on the protozoan parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis in determining the occurrence and prevalence of Cyclospora in all types of waters and fresh produce using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and droplet digital (ddPCR) molecular methods. Dr. Lopez research also focuses on understanding the presence and transmission of microbial pathogens in indoor and outdoor environments to develop better meditation strategies to reduce the risk of exposure to protozoans, viruses and bacterial pathogens and help prevent infectious disease outbreaks.
